Description of the Race:

Setka Atlantic Challenge (SAC) is a renowned solo sailing race scheduled for 2025, offering a unique and challenging experience for participants. The race spans the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean, testing sailors’ endurance, navigation skills, and seamanship.

The race is divided into two legs. The first leg starts on 11/11/2025, from Sagres, Southern Portugal, and concludes at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife, Canary Islands. The finish line of the first leg is latitude N28o28′ between Santa Cruz and Longitude W 16o. The second leg finishes at longitude W 61 between Martinique and St. Lucia.

The basic rules of the race require participants to build and sail singlehandedly across the Atlantic Ocean on a 5m-long plywood yacht, either in the Setka A or Setka B-A class, without assistance. Stops along the way are allowed, and each skipper participates at their own risk.

The yachts used in the race must adhere to specific criteria regarding weight, construction materials, and equipment. The minimum weight of Setka BA is 450kg, while Setka A is 470kg. The hull must be made of waterproof plywood or plywood covered with epoxy-glass laminate, with specific thickness requirements.

SAC is not just a race; it’s an opportunity for sailors to embark on a great ocean adventure, showcasing their seamanship and spirit of adventure. The race is free of charge, and participants are responsible for covering all expenses.
